Sowinski Sullivan collaborated with a team of consultants on a new rail station for the Metro-North Railroad at Yankee Stadium. In addition to designing a new mezzanine station, the project included a new overpass, platforms, and links between parking, bus, and taxi areas, a waterfront park, and new reception facilities. As part of the team, Sowinski Sullivan was responsible for the master plan through the design-build procurement. The overpass provides access between Yankee Stadium, the station mezzanine, and a point to the west of the ROW towards the river. The mezzanine is accessed via the overpass. The key station elements include fare lines, retail space, station supervision infrastructure, and police substation facilities. Sowinski Sullivan designed the improvements to the NYS building code and NFPA 130 requirements. The team also provided architectural oversight during the final design and construction of the station. The new station, which opened in 2010, has won several awards for its design.
