Downingtown Station

LOCATION: Downingtown, PA

OWNER: PennDOT

START DATE: 2020

END DATE: ongoing

Sowinski Sullivan (SSA) is a subconsultant to HNTB for the preliminary design of a new station in Downingtown, PA on the Amtrak Keystone line. The station will replace an existing low-level platform station with a fully accessible station at US 322 which will be served by both Amtrak and SEPTA trains. The project will include construction of two 550 ft long high-level side platforms with canopies. Each platform will be accessible from street level via stair and elevator towers on each side of US 322. These will be connected by sidewalks under the tracks at street level, and bridges over the street at platform level.

The existing station half a mile west is located on a curve, which makes high level platforms and full accessibility unachievable. The new station will also anchor a redevelopment area on adjacent lands. In addition to architectural services, SSA will also provide engineering services for mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, and vertical circulation systems.
