Sowinski Sullivan is the architect for the Elizabeth Station Reconstruction project, which is located in Elizabeth, NJ, along the Northeast Corridor Railroad Line. It is a train station servicing New NJT trains between Trenton and New York City, as well as those on the North Jersey Coast Line from Bay Head to New York City. The existing station is in poor condition with crumbling platforms and an inadequate station building.
Sowinski Sullivan is a member of the design-build team that is taking a set of 30% bridging documents prepared by NJT and creating a complete set of construction documents. The improvements to Elizabeth Station include constructing a new, larger station building, replacing, and extending the existing passenger platforms, doubling the number of elevators to four, and replacing all stairways. These improvements will restore prominence to this station at a time of resurgence for the City of Elizabeth. Ridership is only expected to increase, and the improved accommodations and amenities will enhance the experience for all passengers using the station.
