LOCATION: Troy, NY
OWNER: Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA)
START DATE: 03/2020
END DATE: 05/2021
Sowinski Sullivan provided conceptual design services to CDTA for the development of a new prototypical bus shelter. At completion of design, renderings, and basis of design documentation, Sowinski Sullivan worked with a prefabricator to develop final shop drawings for the unit. The shelter incorporated sustainable design strategies and was piloted at a prominent location in Troy, New York. A green roof was implemented on the shelter roof to retain heat and control stormwater runoff, while transparent photovoltaic glazing on south facing surfaces captures electricity to be used for lighting at the bus stop. Solar powered trash receptacles, benches, lean rails, and bicycle racks are other amenities were included at the shelter.
