Sowinski Sullivan is leading the architectural design for the Tasker-Morris Station ADA improvements. The scope of work includes two new two-stop hydraulic elevators providing access from street level to mezzanine level and mezzanine level to platform level, relocation of an existing stair entrance, ADA upgrades to the remaining existing stairs, renovation of the existing employee restrooms to meet ADA requirements, new customer service booth, and modifications to the existing fareline.
Through an extensive evaluation under a previous task order it was determined that the most viable location for the street to mezzanine level elevator was at the northeast corner of the intersection of Broad Street and Morris Street adjacent to an existing stair entrance and within the corridor connecting the existing entrance to the station mezzanine. This location requires that the existing station entrance be closed and relocated along Broad Street. The new stair entrance includes a headhouse enclosure that incorporates the historic railings from the abandoned entrance. The mezzanine to platform level elevator is located mid-block adjacent to the fareline. Design constraints include incorporating the historic railings into the new headhouse enclosure, coordination with the existing station structure, and location of underground utilities.
