SSA led a multdisciplinary team and provided architectural services for the new Intermodal Center in Scranton, Pennsylvania, that connects local and multiple intercity bus lines. The scope included designing a new intermodal building containing a waiting area, a ticket office, restrooms, and staff and training rooms; accomodating 13 bus berths; and redeveloping an existing parking lot and surrounding area for parking, as well as improving the safety for pedestrians. The design featured many sustainable strategies such as creating bio retention areas, skylights to utilize daylighting, daylight dimming, sustainable material selections, an extensive vegetative roof, and a high insulation value for walls, roofs, and windows.
